Garden Terrace’s COVID-19 Outbreak/Response Plan September 2020

Garden Terrace’s healthcare Team is dedicated to our residents, staff, families and friends in the monumental efforts to stay healthy and safe during this unprecedented time. We have been working diligently to institute each and every safety measure outlined by the New Jersey Department of Health (DOH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in order to best protect the health and safety of everyone in our Home. Most recently we have been following the specific requirements as outlined in the NJDOH’s Executive Directive No. 26-026. This directive governs all long-term care facilities in the state and outlines many important details regarding the management of COVID-19 in long-term care facilities.

COVID-19 has changed all of our lives in so many ways and we at Garden Terrace pride ourselves in having daily correspondence with family members, residents and staff in order to keep everyone completely aware of what is happening inside our Home. Garden Terrace has been sending daily updates to all families and has been available and will remain available 24/7 to answer any questions or to reach a resident. We fully update families about any and all changes in our COVID-19 status daily. We are utilizing phone, email, Facetime, Zoom, window visits with a wireless, hands-free intercom system, and outdoor visits as per state regulations. We are testing our staff weekly and this time all of our residents and staff remain COVID-19 free. If at any time this changes, with even a single case in our staff or residents, families will be notified immediately and our highest level of outbreak response and restrictions will immediately go into effect. Every Garden Terrace employee has been wearing an N95 mask since the beginning of March 2020 and continue to take this safety precaution as well using all required and suggested PPE necessary to follow strict infection control policy and procedures. Garden Terrace has always prided itself in the fact that we have never utilized staffing agencies for staffing shortages since our conception in 1964. Our philosophy is that staff who are not familiar with our residents and our Home are not the best caregivers for our residents. Garden Terrace does, of course, has a contingency/crisis plan should a staffing shortage occur to ensure residents receive all of the care they need and deserve in a timely manner. We are so grateful to our amazing Team who continue to work tirelessly as a family to make sure we always have plenty of staff in our Home to meet every resident’s needs 24/7. Garden Terrace practices total transparency with residents, families, staff and the public regarding our current situation on any given day. Our outbreak plan is available in full, has been submitted to the NJDOH and fully includes all educational, surveillance, testing, communication, staffing and reporting requirements. We answer our phones 24/7 and answer our emails daily so that no one has ever had or will ever have a problem connecting to our Team or to a resident. This is our commitment to you as we know that information and communication is always vital, but at this time even more essential and comforting as we navigate uncharted waters.
